How to Make Tiles Non-Slip

Anti-slip treatment for tiles

Treat, test, then rinse

Grip-It T creates a fine micro-texture on the tile surface to help make slippery porcelain, ceramic and tessellated tiles safer underfoot, indoors and outdoors.

You control the result: test as you go, and once you're happy with the achieved result, pick it up and rinse it off. Made in Kurnell, NSW by Sealers Plus, Professional Grade.

Do not dilute. Pour into a tray or bucket, never straight onto the tiles.

2Test every 5 minutes

Keep it wet and test until you're happy with the achieved result.

3Pick up + rinse

Wet vac it up, then rinse multiple times with clean water.

4Nothing to peel

Not a sealer or a coating, so there's no surface film. A long-lasting slip-resistant treatment.

Step by step

How to apply Grip-It T

Prepare, treat with Grip-It T, then remove, rinse and check. Allow time to work in sections you can keep wet and control.

PrepareClean, protect and test before you treat the whole floor.
Step 1: Prepare the floor
Step 1

Prepare the floor

Clean the tiles with XtremeClean+, rinse well and let dry. Mask stainless steel, chrome, glass, natural stone and drains. Turn off underfloor heating and work out of direct sun. Surface temperature must not be below 4°C or above 28°C.

Step 2: Do a test area first
Step 2

Do a test area first

VERY IMPORTANT
Run the full process (steps 3–9) on a spare tile or hidden spot. Check for colour stability and any surface change when fully dry. Note how many applications gave the grip you want.

TreatKeep a wet film of Grip-It T on the tiles and test every 5 minutes.
Step 3: Apply Grip-It T
Step 3

Apply Grip-It T

Wear gloves, eye, skin and foot protection. Pour into a plastic tray or bucket (never straight from the bottle onto the tiles) and apply with a sponge, roller or mop so a wet film sits evenly over the tiles. Don't spray. Work in sections you can keep wet and control.

Step 4: Start your stopwatch
Step 4

Start your stopwatch

Start timing as soon as the section is evenly wet. Add more product to keep it wet and active. You always want a wet film of Grip-It T on the surface.

Step 5: Test after 5 minutes
Step 5

Test after 5 minutes

Wipe a small spot with a damp cloth.
Finger test: with a gloved finger, rub firmly back and forth across the spot. It should feel grippy and drag, not smooth and glassy.
Shoe test: in a rubber-soled shoe, put your weight on the spot and do a skid/scuff or twisting motion on the tiles. Compare both with an untreated tile.

Step 6: Need more grip? Repeat
Step 6

Need more grip? Repeat

Apply a fresh coat over the whole section and test again after another 5 minutes. Repeat until you're happy with the achieved result.

Step 7: Never let it dry
Step 7

Never let it dry

Never let it dry: add more product to the surface to keep it wet and active. You always want a wet film of Grip-It T on the surface. This may take a few applications, depending on how hard the glaze is and how much grip you want. Not happy after 3 applications? Rinse and contact us.

Remove + rinsePick it up as soon as you're happy, then rinse and check.
Step 8: Pick it up straight away
Step 8

Pick it up straight away

Once you're happy with the achieved result, remove Grip-It T straight away so it stops working. We recommend a wet vac. No wet vac? Squeegee and bucket, or use a mop and bucket kept for this job and wring it out often.

Step 9: Rinse multiple times
Step 9

Rinse multiple times

Rinse multiple times with plenty of clean water and pick up each rinse. Don't let the floor dry between rinses. No wet vac? Rinse at least 3 times with fresh water each time.

Step 10: Check the result when dry
Step 10

Check the result when dry

Check the grip both dry and wet. Dispose of the waste water as your local council requires, never into stormwater drains or the garden.

Tips for the best result

  • Work in sections you can keep wet and control, and top up over the whole section, not just the dry patches
  • On dark tiles, check the test area when fully dry
  • Have the wet vac and rinse water ready before you start, so you can pick up Grip-It T as soon as you're happy with the achieved result
  • Never let Grip-It T dry: add more product to the surface to keep it wet and active. You always want a wet film of Grip-It T on the surface

Important note. Read entire Product Label, SDS and Technical Bulletin before using any product. ALWAYS TEST A SMALL AREA to determine the ease of application & desired results. Anti-slip results vary with the tile, its glaze and the number of applications. Anti-slip treatments help reduce slip risk; they are not a substitute for correct falls and drainage or regular cleaning.
