COATING SEALERS

High Sheen, High Gloss or Satin Finish Sealers

Coating sealers are specially formulated products designed to protect textured, unsealed surfaces from stains, water damage, and general wear. These sealers create a protective barrier on the surface, enhancing its natural colour and sheen and help make the surface easier to clean. They are ideal for both interior and exterior applications, providing durability and maintaining the surface aesthetic appeal whilst also leaving a high gloss or satin finish, depending on your needs. When applying, ensure the surface is clean and dry, and follow the labels instructions for the best results. Regular reapplication may be necessary to maintain optimum protection.

  • Product Function: Protects unsealed, porous textured surfaces from oil, grease, grime and food stains.
  • Product Finish: Available in Wet Look, High Gloss and Satin Finish.
  • Product Application: Create a clear film finish on the surface creating a easy to care for barrier.

Choosing the right coating sealer for stone, tile and grout

Coating sealers sit on top of the surface rather than soaking in, forming a film that helps resist oil, grease, grime and food stains while adding sheen. They only bond properly to porous, rough or textured surfaces.

Picking the right one depends on your surface type and the finish you want. Porcelain Plus suits rough ceramic, porcelain and tessellated tiles, while Gloss'N'Seal is formulated for natural stone, terracotta, encaustic tiles, terrazzo and pavers.

  • Porcelain Plus - high sheen coating sealer for rough, highly textured ceramic, porcelain and tessellated tiles
  • Gloss'N'Seal - high gloss film finish for natural stone, terracotta, encaustic tiles, terrazzo and pavers
  • Grip-It P Powder - anti-slip additive mixed into a coating sealer to help improve grip

Where coating sealers work best (and where they do not)

These sealers suit indoor and outdoor floors, walls, walkways and driveways with a rough or textured finish. They are not designed for polished, smooth or lightly textured surfaces, benchtops, or areas with standing or pooling water such as showers, pools and spas.

Coating sealers are not a substitute for compliant membranes, drainage and correct preparation, and will not protect against wear or etching from harsh or acidic chemicals. Wipe spills promptly to help reduce staining, and always test in a small hidden area first to check coverage and finish.

FAQs

Coating sealers: common questions

What is the difference between Porcelain Plus and Gloss'N'Seal?

Porcelain Plus is designed for rough, highly textured ceramic, porcelain and tessellated tiles, giving a high sheen finish. Gloss'N'Seal is for natural stone, terracotta, encaustic tiles, terrazzo and pavers, with a high gloss film finish. Both need a porous or textured surface to bond properly, so check which matches your material before buying.

Can I use a coating sealer on polished or smooth tiles?

No. Coating sealers like Porcelain Plus and Gloss'N'Seal need a rough or textured surface to bond properly. On polished, smooth or lightly textured tiles, benchtops or table tops, the coating will not adhere correctly, so these products are not recommended for those surfaces.

Does a coating sealer make a surface water resistant?

Coating sealers such as Porcelain Plus and Gloss'N'Seal offer maximum stain resistance against oil, grease, grime and food, and make cleaning easier, but they are not a substitute for compliant membranes, drainage and correct preparation. Spills should still be wiped up promptly to help reduce staining and slip falls.

Can I use a coating sealer in a shower or pool area?

No. Coating sealers are not suitable for areas subject to standing or pooling water, including showers, swimming pools and spas. If used outdoors, make sure there is adequate water run off. For wet area surfaces, check the cleaning and sealing options for travertine page for relevant guidance.

How do I make a coating sealer less slippery?

Mix Grip-It P Powder into your coating sealer, floor paint or epoxy floor coating before application. It creates a micro-textured, clear anti-slip finish without sharp abrasive edges and can only be used with coating type sealers, not penetrating sealers.

Do I need to test a coating sealer before applying it fully?

Yes. Always test products such as Porcelain Plus or Gloss'N'Seal in a small, inconspicuous area first. This helps you check ease of application, how many coats are needed, and whether the final sheen or gloss result suits your surface.
