Quartzite

A hard metamorphic stone formed from sandstone, used for benchtops, floors, cladding and paving.

Quartzite forms when sandstone is transformed by heat and pressure into a hard, crystalline stone. It is used for benchtops, floors, stacked-stone cladding, feature walls and outdoor paving, and ranges from white and grey to gold and rust tones.

Porosity varies widely between quartzites, and some can absorb oil and water more than expected. Sealing helps reduce staining and makes cleaning easier, particularly on benchtops and outdoor cladding. Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner, and note that some stones sold as quartzite contain calcite, so test acidic products first.
