Engineered stone
A manufactured stone made from crushed quartz and resin, common on kitchen benchtops and vanities.
Engineered stone combines crushed quartz or other minerals with resin binders to create a uniform, hard-wearing surface. It is widely used for kitchen benchtops, islands, vanities and splashbacks in polished and honed finishes.
Engineered stone has very low porosity, so it generally does not need sealing, although honed and textured finishes can mark more easily. Care focuses on gentle daily cleaning with a pH-neutral cleaner. Avoid harsh solvents, strong alkalis and abrasive pads, which can dull the resin, and wipe up spills promptly.

Step 1 What finish is your engineered stone?

Your finish
Honed engineered stone
A honed finish is ground back to a smooth, flat surface with a soft matte look rather than a reflective one, giving engineered stone an even, low-glare appearance. It tends to show marks more readily, so a colour enhanced sealer can deepen the tones while a natural look sealer keeps the original shade unchanged.

Polished engineered stone
A polished finish is buffed to a high shine, giving engineered stone a glossy, reflective surface that highlights its colours and pattern. Being fairly dense, it's less absorbent than other finishes, and a natural look sealer can help reduce staining without altering that glossy appearance.

Sandblasted engineered stone
A sand blasted finish is created by blasting the surface with fine abrasive particles, leaving engineered stone with a slightly textured, matte, non-reflective feel. This roughened surface can trap dirt and grime more easily, so a natural look sealer can help with cleaning while leaving the look unchanged.

Textured engineered stone
A textured finish leaves engineered stone with a tactile, uneven surface rather than a smooth plane, often chosen to help underfoot grip. This surface can collect dust and grime in its grooves, so a natural look sealer can help make routine cleaning easier without changing its appearance.
