Encaustic tiles
Patterned cement tiles with colour inlaid into the body, loved for feature floors, bathrooms and kitchens.
Encaustic tiles are cement-based tiles where the pattern is made from coloured pigment layers pressed into the tile, rather than glazed on top. They bring bold pattern to entries, bathrooms, kitchens and verandahs.
Encaustic tiles are highly porous and sensitive to acids, so they can stain and etch easily. Sealing before and after grouting helps reduce staining and grout haze. Avoid acidic cleaners, vinegar and harsh chemicals; use a pH-neutral cleaner for routine care. For grout haze or soap scum, choose a product made for cement and acid-sensitive tiles.

Step 1 What finish is your encaustic tiles?

Your finish
Honed encaustic tiles
A honed finish is ground back to a smooth, flat matte surface with no shine, giving encaustic tiles a soft, chalky appearance that shows their pattern clearly. These tiles tend to be fairly porous, so sealing helps reduce staining, with a natural look keeping the original tone or a colour enhanced option deepening the pattern's contrast.
